Mechanics Special: for Repair or parts. New extra parts included. Includes 4 volume shop repair manual.
The Good: Generally a nice car for its age. Starts easily, rides and drives nicely in 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th gear. 4.0 L 6 cyl. Fwd. All Accessories. Heated powered seats. Power lift gate. Backup camera and sensors. Trailer towing package. DVD player in back for kids.
The Bad: The 2-4 clutch pack is not engaging, i.e. No 3rd or 6th gear. I put on a new solenoid pack, sensors, and cleaned and checked the valve body. I suspect (but do not guarantee) that the 2/4 clutch piston has failed or pushed out it’s retaining snap ring.
I would fix this myself but getting the transmission out means dropping the front subframe (either with the engine or without). Doing this in the driveway without a lift is a pain in all the parts that can feel pain. If you have access to a lift, this is a pretty standard transmission repair/swap.
This has the very common 62TE 6 speed transmission. Lots of aftermarket parts and rebuild/repair videos on the web.
Extra Parts: I was in the process of doing a bunch of maintenance to get this ready for its next 50k miles or so, so there are new un-mounted parts included.
Catalytic Converters (total of 5 – 2 OEM cooked – 1 Aftermarket - Good - on the car – 2 New in box)– When I bought this it had a bad injector which burned out the front(left) CC. I replaced that with an aftermarket converter which is still working. I kept the original and it is included. Another injector went bad and cooked the rear (right) CC which is still on the car. I ordered two new aftermarket CCs which are still in the box and are included. (excel exhaust systems)
New Oxygen Sensor
New rear disks and pads still in the box, new front disks and pads installed on the car.
Remanufactured Steering Rack and 1 tie rod end, still in box.
